Measle and the Dragodon facts for kids

Measle and the Dragodon is an exciting children's book. It was written by Ian Ogilvy and has cool drawings by Chris Mould. This book is the second one in the Measle Stubbs series. It first came out in 2004. OUP published it in the UK. Harper Collins released it in the US. Later, in 2010, OUP re-released it. The new title was The Funfair of Fear!

The story takes place in a very spooky setting. The author said it's "a deserted theme park at night in the pouring rain." Imagine Measle running around in the dark! He has to avoid seven scary creatures called Wrathmonks.

What Happens in the Story?

This book is about a boy named Measle. He has just found his parents again, Sam and Lee Stubbs. One day, they all go to a theme park called the Isle of Smiles. But their fun day quickly turns bad.

The Trouble Begins

Measle's mom, Lee, gets captured. Scary creatures called wrathmonks take her away. Wrathmonks are like wizards who have gone a bit crazy. They take Lee to the Isle of Smiles. Measle's dad, Sam, also gets into trouble. His memory is completely wiped clean!

Measle's Big Quest

Now, Measle and his loyal dog, Tinker, are on their own. They must find and save Measle's parents. Measle bravely makes his way to the Isle of Smiles. But the wrathmonks have a nasty surprise waiting for him.

A Theme Park Comes Alive

The wrathmonks cast a powerful spell. This spell makes all the rides and creatures in the theme park come alive! These living attractions then try to catch Measle. He has to run and hide from them.

Facing the Dragodon

After escaping the park's living creatures, the wrathmonks finally catch Measle. They want to get rid of him. But their leader, a powerful creature called a dragodon, has other plans. The dragodon orders them to take Measle to a special ride. This ride leads straight into the dragon's secret lair!

The Final Battle

Measle faces a huge dragon and the dragodon in a big fight. He and his mom manage to escape. They get back to their house. The wrathmonks follow them there. After one last short fight, Measle and his family finally defeat the wrathmonks.

Meet the Characters

Here are some of the main characters you'll meet in Measle and the Dragodon:

• Measle Stubbs/Sam Lee Stubbs - He is the main hero of the book. Measle is a thin 10-year-old boy. He has a funny haircut. His nickname, 'Measle,' is a secret code. It's an anagram of his real name, Sam Lee. His old guardian, Basil Tramplebone, gave him this nickname.
• Tinker - This is Measle's loyal dog. Tinker is very helpful. He has saved Measle many times throughout the story.
• The Dragodon - This is a very old and powerful creature. The Dragodon is the last of its kind. It used to ride dragons.
• Arcturion - Arcturion is a dragon. He was stuck in the Isle of Smiles for many years. He got hurt in a big battle a long time ago.
• Sam Stubbs - This is Measle's dad. He is also a wizard. He can do magic, but he isn't the most powerful wizard around.
• Lee Stubbs - This is Measle's mom. She is a special person called a manafount. This means she has an endless supply of mana. Mana is the energy that magicians use to cast spells. Lee can't do spells herself. But her husband can use her mana by holding her hand. Or, in a very dangerous way, if she were to be eaten.
• Griswold Gristle - He was Basil's bank manager in the first book. Griswold is a short wrathmonk.
