Ian Ogilvy's Early Life
Ian Ogilvy grew up in Woking, Surrey, England. His father, Francis Fairfield Ogilvy, was the brother of a famous advertising executive named David Ogilvy. Ian's mother, Aileen Raymond, was an actress. Ian went to schools like Sunningdale School and Eton College. He also studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Ian Ogilvy's Acting Career
Becoming The Saint
Ian Ogilvy is most famous for starring in the TV series Return of the Saint (1978–1979). In this show, he played the main character, Simon Templar, also known as The Saint. Another famous actor, Roger Moore, had played The Saint before him.
Because of this role, Ian was considered for the part of James Bond in the early 1980s. Even though he never played James Bond in the movies, he did play a similar spy character in some TV commercials. He also recorded audio versions of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels.

Ian Ogilvy has had a long and busy career in theatre, movies, and television. He has performed in many plays in London's West End, which is like Broadway in New York. Some of these plays include Design for Living and Three Sisters.
He has also appeared in many films. He had a big role in the 1970 movie Waterloo. He worked with famous horror actors like Boris Karloff in The Sorcerers (1967) and Vincent Price in Witchfinder General (1968). These books have been translated into at least 15 different languages around the world.
He has also written two novels for adults, Loose Chippings and The Polkerton Giant. His plays include A Slight Hangover and Swap!. In 2016, he published his memoir, Once a Saint, which tells stories from his life.
