Goldie Jeanne Hawn (born November 21, 1945) is an American actress, producer, dancer, and singer. She became famous for her fun and funny roles in movies and on TV. Over her long career, she has won major awards like an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
Hawn first gained attention on the comedy show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In from 1968 to 1970. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie Cactus Flower (1969). She was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for the comedy Private Benjamin (1980).
Some of her other popular comedy films include Overboard (1987), Death Becomes Her (1992), and The First Wives Club (1996). More recently, she appeared in The Christmas Chronicles (2018) and its sequel in 2020.
Hawn is the mother of actors Oliver Hudson, Kate Hudson, and Wyatt Russell. She has been in a relationship with actor Kurt Russell since 1983. In 2003, she started The Hawn Foundation to help children with their education.

Early Life and Family
Goldie Hawn was born in Washington, D.C.. Her mother, Laura, owned a jewelry shop and a dance school. Her father, Edward Rutledge Hawn, was a musician. He was a descendant of Edward Rutledge, who signed the Declaration of Independence.
Hawn was named after her mother's aunt. She has a sister named Patti. Her brother, Edward Jr., died as a baby before Patti was born.
Her father was Presbyterian, and her mother was Jewish. Hawn was raised with Jewish traditions in Takoma Park, Maryland. She started taking ballet and tap dance lessons when she was three years old. In 1955, she danced in a production of The Nutcracker. Her first time acting on stage was in 1964, playing Juliet in Romeo and Juliet.
After high school, Hawn studied drama at American University but left to open her own ballet school. She later moved to New York City to become a professional dancer.
Acting Career
1966–1969: First Roles and Big Break
Hawn moved to California and began her acting career on the TV show Good Morning World in 1967. Her big break came when she joined the cast of the comedy show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. On the show, she was known for her cheerful personality and high-pitched giggle.
Her success on Laugh-In led to movie roles. She had a small part in the 1968 movie The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. Her first major film role was in Cactus Flower (1969). For this role, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
1970–1989: Becoming a Comedy Star
After winning an Oscar, Hawn's movie career grew quickly. She starred in many successful comedies, including There's a Girl in My Soup (1970) and Butterflies Are Free (1972). She also acted in dramas like Steven Spielberg's The Sugarland Express (1974) and the popular movie Shampoo (1975).
In 1978, she starred with Chevy Chase in the hit movie Foul Play. The movie was about a woman who gets caught up in an assassination plot. This film made her even more famous.
In 1980, Hawn starred in Private Benjamin, a comedy she also helped produce. The movie was a huge success and earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Her other popular films from the 1980s include Seems Like Old Times (1980), Wildcats (1986), and Overboard (1987), where she starred with her partner, Kurt Russell.
1990–2002: Continued Success
In the 1990s, Hawn continued to star in popular movies. She acted with Mel Gibson in the action-comedy Bird on a Wire (1990). She also appeared in the comedy Housesitter (1992) with Steve Martin and the fantasy film Death Becomes Her (1992) with Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis.
After taking a break to care for her mother, Hawn returned to the screen in 1996. She starred in The First Wives Club with Bette Midler and Diane Keaton. The movie was a big hit. For the film's soundtrack, the three actresses sang a cover of the song "You Don't Own Me".
She also starred in the musical Everyone Says I Love You (1996). In 2002, she appeared in The Banger Sisters with Susan Sarandon. After this film, she took a long break from acting.
2013–present: Return to Acting
In 2013, Hawn did voice work for an episode of the animated show Phineas and Ferb. She made her big-screen comeback in 2017 in the comedy Snatched, where she played Amy Schumer's mother.
In 2018, she had a small role as Mrs. Claus in the Netflix movie The Christmas Chronicles. She returned to play Mrs. Claus in a bigger role in the sequel, The Christmas Chronicles 2, in 2020.
Personal Life
Beliefs and Family
Hawn has studied meditation. She has said, "I was born Jewish, and I consider that my religion." She believes that developing a spiritual life is very important. Hawn is also a supporter of the LGBT community.
Hawn was married to director Gus Trikonis from 1969 to 1976. Her second marriage was to musician Bill Hudson from 1976 to 1982. With Hudson, she had two children: a son, Oliver Hudson, and a daughter, Kate Hudson, who are both actors.
Since 1983, Hawn has been in a relationship with actor Kurt Russell. They met in 1967 while filming a movie but started their relationship years later. They have one son together, Wyatt Russell, who was born in 1986. Hawn and Russell have said they do not plan to marry, feeling that a wedding is not needed to show their commitment to each other.
The Hawn Foundation
In 2003, Hawn started The Hawn Foundation. It is a non-profit group that creates educational programs for children. The foundation's main program, called MindUP, helps students improve their well-being and focus on their studies.
