A stream called Scaly Bark Creek flows near Medford. This creek has been dammed up in one spot to create a small body of water called Rock Island Lake. The nearby town of Holden is about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) north of Medford along Route 131.
A Glimpse into Medford's Past
Medford was officially started in the year 1905. It was named after someone who worked for the railroad, showing how important trains were back then.
A post office was also opened in Medford in 1905. This was a busy place where people sent and received mail. The post office stayed open for many years, until 1937. For a short time, it was even known by a different name: Olive Hill.
