Megan Rochell's Early Life and Career
At just 11 years old, Megan Rochell was a five-time winner on the TV show Showtime at the Apollo. This show helps new artists get discovered. A few years later, she met Leon Huff from Philadelphia International Records. She began working on her singing career.
One day, she met Boyz II Men's Nathan Morris outside the Philadelphia International building. She sang for him, and he was so impressed that he signed her to his management company. This helped Megan get a record deal with Def Jam Records. She had been studying at Rowan University, first business, then teaching. But she left college to focus on her music career after getting the deal.
Music Releases and Projects
Megan's first album was called You, Me and the Radio. It was supposed to come out in June 2006. Famous artists like Ne-Yo and Fabolous worked on the album. However, the album was never officially released. Megan explained that the music industry was changing a lot. Also, new leaders at Def Jam, like Jay Z, were focusing on other new artists, such as Rihanna.
Even though the album wasn't officially released, it became available online. This happened because promotional CDs were shared. The next year, in 2007, she sang with rapper Peedi on a song called "Take Me Home."
In 2008, Megan released a mixtape called Vibe Love Party. She shared it on her MySpace page. A mixtape is like a collection of songs, often shared for free. In 2009, she worked with Skinny & Scales on their song "We're Gonna Make It."
Later, in 2015, she released a digital song called "Hell Nah." It was released again in 2016 through a different company. In 2016, she also released a new song called "I'm Busy!"
That same year, Megan released her first album digitally. It was available on music platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music. This version of the album had a slightly different list of songs and some extra bonus tracks. A limited number of vinyl records of the album were also released in 2018.
In 2017, Megan released her first EP, Insight. An EP is shorter than an album, usually with fewer songs. She also mentioned she was working on a mixtape just for girls. Around this time, she also wrote songs for other artists. Some of these artists include Kehlani, K. Michelle, and Keyshia Cole.
In late 2018, she released two more digital songs, "X" and "Because of Love." These songs were released before her new EP, New Wave Music, which came out on November 22, 2018.
