Mel Mitchell III, born on February 10, 1979, is a former American football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). A safety is a defensive player who helps stop big plays and covers receivers.
Mel Mitchell played college football for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. He was chosen by the New Orleans Saints in the 2002 NFL draft. Later in his career, he also played for the New England Patriots.
