Melchior Mbonimpa facts for kids
Melchior Mbonimpa, born in 1955, is a talented writer from Burundi and Canada. He is famous for his novel Les morts ne sont pas morts (which means "The Dead Are Not Dead"). This book won a special award called the Prix Christine-Dumitriu-Van-Saanen in 2006. This award is given out at the Salon du livre de Toronto, a big book fair in Toronto.
Before winning, he was also a finalist for the same award in 2002 for his book Le totem des Baranda and again in 2004 for Le dernier roi faiseur de pluie.
Melchior Mbonimpa is also a professor. He teaches philosophy at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. He writes different kinds of books, including novels (fiction stories) and non-fiction books about politics in Africa. In 2019, he was recognized as one of the 25 most important Black Canadian people in Franco-Ontarian culture by Ici Radio-Canada. This means he is a very important figure in the French-speaking community of Ontario.
His book Le totem des Baranda was chosen for a special book competition in 2021 called Le Combat des livres. In this contest, different people defend a book they love. A filmmaker named Tanya Lapointe defended his book.
