Melincourt Falls

Melincourt Falls is a beautiful waterfall in south Wales. It's about 80 feet (24 meters) tall! You can find it near a village called Resolven, in the Neath Port Talbot area. The waterfall is on a small stream called Melin Court Brook, which flows into the River Neath.

The water tumbles over strong rocks called 'Lower Pennant Sandstone'. This area is also a special nature reserve, covering about 13 acres (5 hectares). It's looked after by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, which helps protect nature.

People have been visiting Melincourt Falls for a long time. Over 200 years ago, in 1794, a famous artist named J. M. W. Turner was so inspired by the falls that he painted them! Some people think Melincourt Falls is part of a bigger area known as Waterfall Country. Most of the other waterfalls in that area are a few miles away, further northeast in the Vale of Neath.

Visiting Melincourt Falls

It's easy to visit Melincourt Falls! There's a public path you can follow.

How to find the path

The path starts from the B4434 road, which goes from Resolven to Tonna. The entrance to the path is about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Resolven. You'll find a public car park on one side of the road, and the path entrance is right across the road from it.

Viewing the falls

You can see the falls from the bottom, which is a great view! You can also see them from above. A small public road crosses the brook just before the waterfall, giving you a different perspective.
