Vale of Neath facts for kids
The Vale of Neath (also called the Neath Valley, or Cwm Nedd in Welsh) is a beautiful area in southwest Wales. It's one of the famous South Wales Valleys. This valley follows the upper part of the River Neath.
Besides the River Neath, you'll find the Neath Canal and the A465 dual carriageway running through the valley. Many towns and villages are located here, including Neath, Cadoxton, Tonna, Aberdulais, Resolven, Blaengwrach, Glynneath, and Pontneddfechan. In the past, coal mining was a big industry here, with mines near Glynneath at Aberpergwm and Pentreclwydau.

The Vale of Neath is often called "Waterfall Country" because it has so many amazing waterfalls! You can find these natural wonders in different parts of the valley.
Waterfalls in the Upper Valley
In the upper part of the valley, close to the Brecon Beacons mountains, several rivers create stunning waterfalls. These rivers include the Afon Hepste, Nedd Fechan, Afon Pyrddin, Afon Mellte, and Afon Sychryd. Each one offers a unique and beautiful sight.
Waterfalls in the Lower Valley
Further down the valley, you can discover more waterfalls. Two well-known spots are Melincourt and Aberdulais. These waterfalls add to the valley's charm and natural beauty.
The Vale of Neath Railway: A Look at Its Past
The Vale of Neath Railway once carried passengers through this area. Today, parts of the railway line are still used, mainly for moving goods. It's a reminder of how important railways were for transport in the past.
