Melis Alphan (born in 1978) is a talented Turkish journalist and author. She is well-known for her work supporting women's rights. She also writes a lot about fashion.
Melis Alphan's Journey in Journalism
Melis Alphan started her education at the American Collegiate Institute in İzmir. After that, she went to the London College of Fashion to study fashion. She earned a degree there. She also studied for a short time at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
In 2001, Melis returned to Turkey. She began her career in journalism at Vizyon magazine. The same year, she started working at the newspaper Radikal. By 2003, she joined the Milliyet newspaper. In 2009, she moved to the Hürriyet newspaper. She worked there for nine years.
Melis wrote many articles on different topics. She focused on issues like women's rights and fashion. Over time, she became one of the few female journalists in Turkey to have her own regular column in a newspaper. In 2018, she helped judge the Metin Göktepe Journalism Awards. In 2019, she published a book called I Will – Inspiring Life Stories. This book shares stories that can motivate people.
A Challenge and an Award
In November 2020, Melis faced a legal challenge. This was because of an Instagram post she made. The post showed a photo from the Kurdish new year celebrations in Diyarbakır in 2015. There was a misunderstanding about the photo. However, on May 21, 2021, she was found innocent.
Melis Alphan has also received an important award for her work.
