Melodi Grand Prix Junior, often called MGPjr, is a popular Norwegian TV music show. It's a singing competition for kids and teens aged 8 to 15. Contestants mostly sing in Norwegian. Sometimes, they also sing in Northern Sami, which is another language spoken in Norway. It's a big event where young talents get to show off their singing skills!

The History of MGPjr

MGPjr has an interesting past with other big music contests.

MGPjr and Junior Eurovision

From 2003 to 2005, the winners of MGPjr went on to compete in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC). This was a big international singing competition for kids. Norway sent its best young singers to represent the country.

MGPjr and MGP Nordic

In 2006, Norway, along with Denmark and Sweden, decided to leave JESC. Instead, they started a new contest called Melodi Grand Prix Nordic. This was a special competition just for kids from Scandinavian countries.

From 2006 to 2009, MGPjr was the show that picked Norway's entry for MGP Nordic. After 2010, MGPjr became a national final on its own. The winning song is now chosen just for Norway.
