Melody Anderson (born December 3, 1955) is a Canadian actress who is now retired. She also works as a social worker and public speaker. She helps families understand how addiction can affect them. As an actress, she is best known for playing Dale Arden in the 1980 movie Flash Gordon. She also starred with Chuck Norris in the 1986 film Firewalker. Melody trained as an actress while also singing, which led to many roles in movies and TV shows in the late 1970s and 1980s.
Early Life
After finishing high school, Melody Anderson earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. She worked briefly as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Later, she traveled to Southeast Asia and Australia. In Sydney, she became one of the first non-Australian female reporters for a local newspaper.
Career
Acting Roles
When Melody Anderson returned to North America, she started appearing on television. Her first national TV roles were in the 1977 series Logan's Run and an episode of Welcome Back, Kotter. She made many guest appearances on popular TV shows. These included Archie Bunker's Place, Battlestar Galactica, Dallas, T. J. Hooker, and CHiPs. She was also in the first episode of The A-Team and an episode of The Fall Guy.
Melody had regular roles on St. Elsewhere and Jake and the Fatman. She was the main female character in the 1983 NBC series Manimal. In 1989, she was a guest star in the Murder, She Wrote episode "Prediction: Murder."
Anderson played the main female role of Dale Arden in the movie Flash Gordon (1980). She also played Janet Gillis in Dead and Buried (1981).
In 1986, she appeared with Nicolas Cage in The Boy in Blue. She also starred with Chuck Norris in Firewalker. She was in the TV movie Beverly Hills Madam (1986), which starred Faye Dunaway. From 1992 to 1993, Melody played Natalie Marlowe and her twin sister Janet Dillon on the soap opera All My Children. She played Edie Adams in the TV film Ernie Kovacs: Between the Laughter. In this movie, Jeff Goldblum played Ernie Kovacs. Melody also played the famous role of Marilyn Monroe in the 1993 TV movie Marilyn & Bobby: Her Final Affair. Her last TV appearance was in 1995. She was a guest star in the show Burke's Law.
Melody Anderson has also attended fan conventions. For example, she was at the Big Apple Convention in Manhattan in October 2009.
