The Great Depression and the Art Center
During the 1930s, the United States faced a tough time called the Great Depression. To help people, the government started programs known as the New Deal. One of these programs helped create the Melrose Art Center.
It was special because Melrose was the smallest town to have such a federal art center. This center helped people express themselves through art. A talented teacher named Estella García taught at the Center.
