Petronilla Melusina von der Schulenburg, Countess of Walsingham, Countess of Chesterfield (born April 1, 1693 – died September 16, 1778) was a daughter of King George I of Great Britain. Her mother was Melusine von der Schulenburg, Duchess of Kendal, who was a close partner of the King for many years.
Early Life and Titles
Melusina was born in 1693. She grew up as the daughter of King George I. In 1722, she received special titles. She became Baroness Aldborough and Countess of Walsingham. These were titles given to her for her lifetime.
Life After Her Father's Death
King George I passed away in 1727. After his death, Melusina lived mostly with her mother. They lived at a place called Kendal House. This house was located in Isleworth, England.
Marriage and Family
On September 5, 1733, Melusina got married. She married Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield. They were married in Isleworth, Middlesex. Philip Stanhope was an important politician. He was a leader in a political group called the Whigs. Melusina and Philip did not have any children together. However, some old family letters suggest something interesting. They hint that Melusina might have been the mother of Benedict Swingate Calvert. Benedict was born around 1730-1732. His father was Charles Calvert, 5th Baron Baltimore. The identity of Benedict's mother is not fully known.
