Melvin Everson's Early Life
Melvin Everson was born in Abbeville, Georgia. This was on September 24, 1957. He was one of ten children in his family. As a child, he helped his family by picking cotton and turnips. In 1975, he finished high school. He graduated from Wilcox County High School in Rochelle, Georgia.
Education and Learning
Melvin Everson continued his education after high school. In 1983, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He studied Criminology at Albany State University. He also attended the John E Reid School of Interrogation & Investigation in Chicago, Illinois. Later, he studied at the Coverdale Leadership Institute.
Melvin Everson's Career
Melvin Everson has had a varied career. He served in the United States Army. He was also part of the United States Army Reserves from 1976 until 1999.
Public Service and Politics
In 2001, Mr. Everson began serving his community. He became a councilman for the city of Snellville, Georgia. From 2005 to 2006, he worked as a probation officer. This role was at Professional Probation Services.
In 2005, a special election was held. This was because Phyllis Miller, who held the seat, became a judge. Melvin Everson ran for the Georgia House of Representatives. He won the special election on September 27, 2005. He became a Republican member for District 106. He won against Warren Auld.
Mr. Everson continued to serve his district. He won re-election in 2006. He defeated Tony Lentini in that election. He won again in 2008, also against Tony Lentini. He served in the Georgia House of Representatives until 2011.

After his time in the House, Mr. Everson took on other important roles. He was the Executive Director of Georgia Workforce Development. In September 2011, Governor Nathan Deal appointed him. He became the Executive Director and Administrator. This role was for the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity.

He also worked in education. He was the Director of Business and Industry Training. This was at Gwinnett Technical College. In 2019, he became the Vice President of Economic Development at the same college.
