The Museum's Story
From School to Museum
The building where the museum is now, called Canolfan Thomas Telford Centre, used to be a school. It was built in 1854. A well-known architect named Henry Kennedy designed it. Over the years, more parts were added to the building. For example, a cloakroom was built in 1896. A front porch was added in 1909.
The building was used as a school until 1923. After that, it became a church hall. It stayed a church hall until 2007.
How the Museum Started
In 2007, a group called the Menai Bridge Community Heritage Trust bought the building. This group is also known as Menai Heritage. They fixed up the building and named it after Thomas Telford. He was the amazing engineer who built the Menai Suspension Bridge.
The Trust started in 1997. Their goal was to protect the history and special buildings of Menai Bridge. Today, the building is a community center. It is also home to the Menai Heritage Bridges Exhibition. This museum is officially recognized and accredited.
