People of Mercedes
Learning about the people who live in a place is called demographics. In 2013, a special count of people happened in Honduras. This count is called a census. It helps the government understand how many people live in each area.
The census showed that about 7,226 people lived in Mercedes. Most of these people, about 99 out of every 100, were Mestizo. This means they have a mix of European and Indigenous (native) backgrounds.
A small number of people were Indigenous. These are people whose families have lived in the Americas for a very long time. There were also a few Black or Afro-Honduran people. Their ancestors came from Africa. A very small number of people were identified as White.
