History of Meridian
Meridian has an interesting past with transportation.
Early Transportation Links
In 1908, Meridian got a special connection. It was linked to nearby towns like Butler, Evans City, and the big city of Pittsburgh. This link was made by a trolley line. It was called the Pittsburgh, Harmony, Butler and New Castle Railway. Trolleys are like electric buses that run on tracks.
End of the Trolley Era
The trolley line served the area for many years. However, it closed down on June 15, 1931. After that, buses took over the job of transporting people.

Neighboring Areas and Roads
To the east and partly to the north, Meridian shares a border with another CDP called Homeacre-Lyndora. A main road, Pennsylvania Route 68, runs along the northern edge of Meridian. This road can take you about 4 miles (6.4 km) east to downtown Butler. It also goes about 8 miles (13 km) southwest to Evans City.
