Merle Frohms (born January 28, 1995) is a talented German professional footballer. She plays as a goalkeeper, which means her job is to stop the other team from scoring goals. Merle currently plays for the Liga F club Real Madrid. She also played for the German national team for many years.

Merle Frohms' Club Journey

Starting Out in Football

Merle Frohms began her football journey playing with boys at a club called Fortuna Celle. She played there until 2011. Her skills were noticed, and she was signed by VfL Wolfsburg in late 2010.

Time at VfL Wolfsburg

When she first joined Wolfsburg, Merle was part of the second team. She made her first team debut on December 9, 2012. This was in a match where Wolfsburg won 3–0 against FSV Gütersloh 2009.

Merle's contract with Wolfsburg was extended in 2014. The club's sports director, Ralf Kellermann, said she was a "great goalkeeping talent." During this time, she even played in the Champions League semi-final. She also helped Wolfsburg win the DFB-Pokal Frauen (German Cup) in 2015 and 2016.

Moving to Other Clubs

After several years at Wolfsburg, Merle moved to another Bundesliga club, SC Freiburg, in 2018. She played in 18 games during her first season there.

In 2020, Merle joined Eintracht Frankfurt. This was a big move, as she was the first player signed after the club merged with 1. FFC Frankfurt.

Return to Wolfsburg and Real Madrid Move

On February 15, 2022, Merle Frohms returned to VfL Wolfsburg. She signed a three-year contract with her former club.

Then, on June 23, 2025, Merle made another exciting move. She joined Real Madrid on a three-year deal. This is a big step in her career, playing for a famous club in Spain.

Merle Frohms' International Career

Playing for Germany's Youth Teams

Merle Frohms has represented Germany at many levels. Her first big international tournament was the 2012 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship. She was the main goalkeeper and helped Germany win the Under-17 title. She even saved penalties in the final!

Later that year, she was the main goalkeeper for Germany at the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. She played in all six matches, and the team finished in fourth place. She also played for the Germany U19 and U20 teams.

Playing for the Senior German Team

Merle was called up to the senior Germany squad for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. This was a huge achievement.

She was also part of the 23-player German squad for the UEFA Women's Euro 2022. The team performed very well in this tournament.

Merle was again called up for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. Her experience and skill as a goalkeeper were very important for the team.

On July 3, 2024, she was selected for the German squad to play in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Merle Frohms announced her retirement from international football in September 2024.
