Merle Frohms is a talented German professional footballer. She was born on January 28, 1995. Merle plays as a goalkeeper for the Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. She also played for the German national team.

Merle Frohms' Club Career

Merle Frohms started playing football with boys at Fortuna Celle until 2011. In late 2010, she was signed by VfL Wolfsburg. During her first season, she was part of the second team but did not play any matches.

Early Days at VfL Wolfsburg

On December 9, 2012, Merle made her first team debut. It was a 3–0 win against FSV Gütersloh 2009. This was her only game for the 2012–13 season. The next season, she played sixteen matches for the second team in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga. Her team finished in third place.

Growing as a Goalkeeper

In the 2014–15 season, her contract was extended for two more years. The club's sports director, Ralf Kellermann, said she was a "great goalkeeping talent." During this time, she played three more games for the main club. This included a game in the Champions League. She started in the semi-final match against Paris Saint-Germain. She was also a substitute when Wolfsburg won the DFB-Pokal Frauen in both 2014–15 and 2015–16.

Moving to Other Clubs

After two more years with Wolfsburg, Merle moved to another Bundesliga club, SC Freiburg. She played in 18 games for them in her first season. In 2020, Frohms joined Eintracht Frankfurt. She was the first player signed after the club merged with 1. FFC Frankfurt. In 2022, she returned to VfL Wolfsburg.

Merle Frohms' International Career

Merle Frohms first played in an international tournament at the 2012 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship. She was the main goalkeeper in the semi-final against Denmark. In the final, she saved penalties to help Germany win the Under-17 title. This win also earned Germany a spot in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Later that year, she was the main goalkeeper for Germany at the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. She played in all six matches, and the German team finished in fourth place. Merle announced she was retiring from international football in September 2024.
