Merrie Melodies Starring Bugs Bunny & Friends was a fun animated TV show. It showed classic cartoons from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies collections. The show aired on weekdays from 1990 to 1994. It was first shown to celebrate Bugs Bunny's 50th birthday. It also came out around the same time as the new Tiny Toon Adventures series. This show was distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

It's important not to mix this show up with an older one from Warner Bros. called The Merrie Melodies Show.

How the Show Was Made: Format and Changes

This section explains how the TV show was put together. It also covers how it changed when it moved to a new channel.

Original Syndicated Version (1990-1992)

When the show first aired, each episode started with a special opening. This intro was directed by Darrell Van Citters. In it, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck would show clips from classic cartoons. Daffy often tried to jump into the action, but something funny would always happen to him. There were five different opening scenes, one for each weekday.

Each episode lasted for 30 minutes. It included three classic cartoon shorts. One of these shorts always starred Bugs Bunny. Between the second and third cartoons, there was a short clip called a "Hip Clip." A total of 65 episodes were made. They first aired from September 17 to December 14, 1990. Reruns of these episodes continued until 1992.

Moving to Fox Kids (1992-1994)

In September 1992, Merrie Melodies moved to the Fox Kids Network. This move brought some changes to the show's format. A brand new animated opening was created. In this new intro, Bugs Bunny overslept! He then had to frantically run through the Warner Bros. Studios. As he ran, he passed by many other famous Looney Tunes characters. He was rushing to get to a soundstage, ready for the show.

Episodes List

The show had 65 episodes in total. Each episode featured three classic cartoons. Some of the cartoons were originally made in black-and-white. These were later colorized using computers for the show.

  • An asterisk (*) means a black-and-white cartoon that was computer-colorized.
