Merritt is found in a pretty area. It sits in the valley of Little Beaver Creek. You can find it west of a place called Goodhope. It's located right along Missouri Route T.

How Merritt Got Its Name
Merritt had a post office long ago. It opened in 1903. A man named William Merrit was an early postmaster there. He was in charge of the mail. The community was named after him. The post office stayed open for many years. It closed down in 1930.
The Old Merritt Store
The original Merritt store is no longer there. But, you can still see the building of the "Old Merritt store." It is about 1.25 miles west of the original site. You can find it along Route T.
