History of Mes Kerman Football Club
How the Club Started
Mes Kerman Football Club was created on March 2, 1998. It was formed by the copper industry in Kerman. Before this, the national Iranian copper industry had already started another football team in Rafsanjan.
Mes Kerman began playing in Iran's Second Division football league. By the year 2000, they moved up to the Azadegan League. Bijan Zolfagharnasab became the head coach when they joined the Azadegan League.
Playing in the Azadegan League (2000–2007)
The team joined the Azadegan League in the 2000–01 season. Later, in the 2005–06 season, under the coach Nader Dastneshan, Mes Kerman was promoted to the Iran Pro League. This is Iran's highest football league. They started playing in the Iran Pro League in the 2006–07 season.
Time in the Persian Gulf Cup (2007–2014)
Mes Kerman started the 2007 league season with coach Farhad Kazemi. He was later replaced by Amir Ghalenoei. The team finished strong in the second half of that season.
In 2008, Parviz Mazloomi became the head coach. Under his leadership, Mes Kerman earned a spot in the AFC Champions League for the first time. This is a very important competition for Asian football clubs. They did well, reaching the Round of 16, but were knocked out by another Iranian team, Zob Ahan.
Returning to the Azadegan League
In the 2013–14 season, Mes Kerman finished last in the Iran Pro League. This meant they had to move back down to the Azadegan League. In the same season, they made it to the final of the 2014 Hazfi Cup. They lost the final match 1–0 to Tractor Sazi.
In April 2015, Mes Kerman had a chance to play in a special match to get promoted back to the Persian Gulf Pro League. However, they lost to Esteghlal Khuzestan and missed their chance.
