What is a Metallic Flatwing?
The Metallic Flatwing is a special kind of damselfly. Damselflies are insects that look a lot like dragonflies, but they are usually smaller. One easy way to tell them apart is how they hold their wings when they are resting. The Metallic Flatwing, like other damselflies in its family, rests with its wings spread out wide, almost flat.
Where Does It Live?
This amazing damselfly has only been found in one specific area of Australia. It lives in the beautiful rainforests near Tully Gorge National Park in northern Queensland. It loves to hang out around streams in these rainforests.
What Does It Look Like?
The Metallic Flatwing is a medium-sized damselfly. It has a striking black-green metallic color, which is how it got its name! It also has some lighter markings on its body. Unlike some other insects, it doesn't have a powdery coating called "pruinescence" on its body.
