Mettah's Role as a Peace Post

To help keep peace, Mettah was set up as a special post. This happened in the summer of 1872. The post aimed to reduce problems between settlers and the Yurok people. It was located at the Metta Indian village. This village was near where Mettah Creek meets the Klamath River.

Mettah also had its own post office for a short time. The post office was open from 1924 to 1925. It helped people in the area send and receive mail.
