Mettah is a small place in Humboldt County, California. It is located about 10 miles (16 km) east of Orick. It is also about 3 miles (5 km) south of Johnsons. This area sits at an elevation of 207 feet (63 meters) above sea level.

Who Lived in Mettah First?
The land around Mettah has a long history. The Yurok people lived here for many centuries. They settled in this area around the 1300s. The Yurok were the first known residents of Mettah.
Changes During the Gold Rush
In the 1850s, the California gold rush brought many changes. New settlers came to the region. This period was difficult for the Yurok people. They faced new diseases and conflicts with the arriving settlers.
Mettah's Role as a Peace Post
To help keep peace, Mettah was set up as a special post. This happened in the summer of 1872. The post aimed to reduce problems between settlers and the Yurok people. It was located at the Metta Indian village. This village was near where Mettah Creek meets the Klamath River.
Mettah's Post Office
Mettah also had its own post office for a short time. The post office was open from 1924 to 1925. It helped people in the area send and receive mail.
