Miao Boying (Chinese: 缪伯英; pinyin: Miao Bóyīng) was a brave Chinese teacher, writer, and revolutionary. She made history by becoming the very first woman to join the Communist Party of China. She also helped start China's Woman's Rights League. Later, she became a leader for women's rights in Hunan Province.

The Life of Miao Boying

Early Life and Education

Miao Boying was born in 1899 in Changsha, a city in Hunan Province, China. She attended the First Girls' Normal School. After that, she passed a tough exam to get into Beijing Normal Women's College. Today, this school is known as Beijing Normal University.

While studying in Beijing, she met He Mengxiong. He was from Hunan too and was studying at Peking University. Miao Boying later paused her studies. She then joined a group called the Work-Study Mutual Aid Corp. This group was started by future leaders of the Communist Party, Deng Zhongxia and Li Dazhao. They wanted to share new ideas about society and fairness.

Joining the Revolution

In November 1920, Miao Boying officially joined the new Communist Youth League of China. This group was led by Yu Xiusong. She started writing articles about the important roles women play in families.

Later that month, some members who had different ideas left the group. To make the group stronger, Miao Boying helped. She was the first woman to join the Youth League. She then found and recruited five more women from other parts of the group.

When she was 21 years old, Miao Boying left the Communist Youth League. She then joined the Chinese Communist Party. Again, she was the very first woman to become a member of this important political party.

Fighting for Women's Rights

A few years later, Miao Boying helped create the Women's Right League. This group worked to improve women's lives. She traveled all over China with her husband, He Mengxiong. They worked hard to tell people about the Women's Right League.

In 1924, party leaders sent her back to Hunan Province. There, she became the secretary of the Hunan Communist Women's Committee. This meant she was a key leader for women's rights in that area.

Sadly, Miao Boying died in 1929. She passed away at Paulun Hospital in Shanghai from typhoid fever.
