Michał Ryszard Żewłakow (born April 22, 1976) is a Polish football expert and former professional player. He played as a defender, which means he helped protect his team's goal. He is currently the sporting director for Ekstraklasa club Legia Warsaw.
Żewłakow played 102 games for the Poland national team over 13 years. This makes him Poland's third most capped player ever. He was the team captain starting in 2006. He represented his country at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups. He also played in the UEFA Euro 2008, which was Poland's first time in that tournament. Besides playing in Poland, he also played for clubs in Belgium, Greece, and Turkey.

Michał Żewłakow's Club Career
Starting Out in Poland
Michał Żewłakow was born in Warsaw, Poland, in April 1976. He spent eight years playing for Polonia Warsaw. He joined their main team during the 1996–97 season.
Playing in Belgium
In October 1998, Żewłakow moved to Belgium to play for KSK Beveren. The next year, he and his twin brother, Marcin, joined Mouscron. Michał became a very important player for Mouscron. He helped the club reach the 2002 Belgian Cup final.
Success with Anderlecht
After Mouscron, Żewłakow followed his coach, Hugo Broos, to Anderlecht. In his second season there, he played in the UEFA Champions League for the first time. Anderlecht also won the league title that year. He helped Anderlecht win the league again in the 2005–06 season.
Moving to Greece with Olympiacos
In the summer of 2006, Żewłakow moved to Greece. He joined the Super League Greece club Olympiacos for free.
Time in Turkey with Ankaragücü
After the 2009–10 season, Żewłakow decided not to renew his contract with Olympiacos. On June 16, 2010, he signed with the Turkish club Ankaragücü as a free player.
Returning to Poland with Legia Warsaw
In June 2011, Żewłakow returned to Poland. He joined Legia Warsaw on a one-year contract.
Michał Żewłakow's International Career
Żewłakow was the main left-back for the Poland national team. He played in all ten of Poland's qualifying matches for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He played in two games at the 2002 World Cup itself. He was also a regular player in the qualifying rounds for UEFA EURO 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he played in three games.

Starting as a Sporting Director
After he stopped playing football at the end of the 2012–13 season, Żewłakow joined Legia Warsaw's management team. He first became the head of their scouting department. In 2015, he was made the sporting director.
Achievements as Sporting Director
As sporting director, Żewłakow was in charge of Legia's player transfers. He helped bring in many important players. He left Legia on September 13, 2017. During his time there, the club won two league titles and one national cup. They also reached the group stage of the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League.
Working with Other Clubs
In June 2018, Żewłakow became the sporting director for another Polish club, Zagłębie Lubin. He helped sign players like Damjan Bohar and Patryk Szysz. He left Zagłębie Lubin at the end of 2019. On August 19, 2020, he also started working as a pundit and co-commentator for Canal+ Sport. On November 3, 2020, Żewłakow was announced as the new sporting director for II liga team Motor Lublin. He held this job at the same time as his role at Canal+. He left Motor Lublin on November 8, 2021.
Returning to Legia Warsaw
On March 27, 2025, Legia Warsaw confirmed that Żewłakow was returning to the club as sporting director. He signed a deal to stay until the end of the 2026–27 season.
Michał Żewłakow's Personal Life
Michał Żewłakow has a twin brother named Marcin. Marcin played as a striker, which is a player who scores goals. Michał and Marcin became the first twins to play together for Poland. This happened in February 2000, when they both started a game against France. They were also teammates at the 2002 World Cup.
