Michael Jace (born July 13, 1962) is an American actor. He is most famous for his role as Los Angeles Police Officer Julien Lowe in the TV drama The Shield, which aired from 2002 to 2008.

In 2014, Jace was involved in a serious incident at his home that resulted in the death of his wife, track and field athlete April Jace. He was found guilty of second-degree murder. In 2016, he was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison.

Acting Career

Jace was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He started his acting career in 1992 with a role in the TV show Law & Order. In 1994, he appeared in several shows and movies. These included Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Clear and Present Danger, and Forrest Gump. In Forrest Gump, he played a leader of the Black Panthers.

Movie Roles

Jace acted in many other movies. In Strange Days, he played a bodyguard. In The Replacements, he was a former prisoner who becomes a football player. He also played a boxer named Marvin Shabazz in The Great White Hype.

Some of his other film roles include Jerome in Boogie Nights and a ticket seller in The Fan. He also played Major Frank Santos in Tim Burton's version of Planet of the Apes.

Television Roles

On television, Jace played boxer Mitch Green in the 1995 HBO movie Tyson. He also appeared in the TV movie Michael Jordan: An American Hero, where he played the famous basketball star Michael Jordan.

His biggest TV role was as Officer Julien Lowe on the popular show The Shield. He was a main character and appeared in all 88 episodes of the series. After The Shield, he had a small role in the TV show Southland between 2009 and 2013.

Legal Issues

On the evening of May 19, 2014, police were called to Jace's home in South Los Angeles. When they arrived, they found his wife, April Jace, had died from gunshot wounds. Jace called 9-1-1 himself and told them what happened.

Jace was arrested and later charged with murder. On May 31, 2016, a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder. On June 10, 2016, he was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. He is currently serving his sentence at Corcoran State Prison in California.
