Michael Lonsdale (born May 24, 1931 – died September 21, 2020) was a famous French actor. He was sometimes known as Michel Lonsdale. He acted in more than 180 movies and television shows during his long career.
Early Life and Career
Michael Lonsdale was born in Paris, France. His mother was French, and his father was English. He grew up in Paris. He began his acting journey on stage when he was 24 years old.
Famous Roles
Michael Lonsdale was well-known for many different roles. In English-speaking countries, he was probably most famous for playing the bad guy, Sir Hugo Drax, in the 1979 James Bond movie, Moonraker.
He also played the French detective Lebel in the movie The Day of the Jackal. Another important role was M. Dupont d'Ivry in The Remains of the Day.
Awards
On February 25, 2011, Michael Lonsdale won his first César Award. This award is like the French version of an Oscar. He won for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Luc in the movie Of Gods and Men.
Later Life
Michael Lonsdale passed away on September 21, 2020, in Paris. He was 89 years old.
