Michael Agbolade Otedola (born July 16, 1926 – died May 5, 2014) was an important Nigerian politician. He served as the governor of Lagos State in the early 1990s. He was born into a Muslim family in Odoragunsin, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State. He passed away in his hometown of Epe.

Early Life and Education
Michael Otedola moved to Lagos to continue his studies. He earned a special scholarship to study Journalism. He went to the Regent Street Polytechnic in London, where he graduated in 1958.
He started his career as a teacher. Later, he worked as a reporter for newspapers like the St. Pancras Chronicle. He also worked for The Guardian and The Times in England. He even became a sub-editor, which means he helped prepare articles for printing.
Public Service and Politics
When Michael Otedola returned to Nigeria in 1959, he became an Information Officer. This job was with the government of Western Nigeria. While in this role, he was also made the Editor of the Western Nigeria Illustrated magazine.
In 1961, he started working in public relations. He worked for Western Nigeria Television and Radio services. Then, from 1964 to 1977, he worked for Mobil Oil Group of Companies. He continued to advise Mobil as a consultant even after he left the company.
Serving as Governor
In 1992, Michael Otedola was elected as the governor of Lagos State. He was part of a political group called the National Republican Convention (NRC). He served as governor until 1993. He left office when General Sani Abacha came to power.
During his time as governor, he helped to establish a new college campus. This was the Yaba College of Technology campus in Epe, his hometown.
Later Life and Legacy
After leaving his role as governor, Michael Otedola continued to be very active. He worked as a writer and a consultant. He also held positions on the boards of various businesses. He was known as a philanthropist, meaning he gave money and time to help others.
In February 2010, ThisDay newspaper announced that he was among 15 important Nigerians. They had won Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions. His son, Femi Otedola, became a very successful businessman. He is the owner of the Nigerian oil company Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited.
A college, the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, was named after him. This was done to honor his memory after he passed away.
