Michael Scott Jr. is an American politician and a business leader. He is currently a member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners. Before this, from 2015 to 2022, he was an alderman for the 24th ward in the Chicago City Council. This ward covers parts of Chicago like North Law Lawndale, South Austin, and West Garfield Park. He belongs to the Democratic Party.

Michael Scott Jr.'s Early Career
Before he joined the City Council, Michael Scott Jr. worked in several important roles. He worked for the Chicago Park District, which manages parks and recreation areas. He also worked for Chicago Public Schools, helping with education in the city. Other places he worked include the Public Building Commission and After School Matters, a program for teens.
Serving on the Chicago City Council
Michael Scott Jr. was first chosen as the alderman for the 24th ward in 2015. He took over from the previous alderman, Michael Chandler. As an alderman, he helped make decisions for his ward and the whole city.

On May 24, 2022, Michael Scott Jr. announced he would leave the City Council. He decided to join Cinespace Chicago Film Studios. There, he became the "Head of Industry and Community Relations." His last day as alderman was June 3, 2022.
After he left, Mayor Lori Lightfoot chose his sister, Monique Scott, to take his place for the rest of his term. The City Council then confirmed her appointment. Later, on July 15, Mayor Lightfoot also appointed Michael Scott Jr. to the Chicago Board of Education.
Joining the Cook County Board of Commissioners
After a commissioner named Dennis Deer passed away, Michael Scott Jr. was chosen to take his place. He became the commissioner for the 2nd district on the Cook County Board of Commissioners. He later won a special election to continue serving for the rest of Deer's term, which ends in December 2026.
Michael Scott Jr.'s Family Life
Michael Scott Jr. has a family with his wife, Natashee, and their three children. His sister, Monique Scott, also became a politician. His father, Michael Scott Sr., was once the President of the Chicago Board of Education under Mayor Richard M. Daley.
