Michael Weatherly Jr. (born on July 8, 1968) is an American actor, producer, director, and musician. He is best known for his roles as Logan Cale in the TV show Dark Angel (2000–2002). He also played special agent Anthony DiNozzo in NCIS (2003–2016, 2024). Later, he starred as Dr. Jason Bull in Bull (2016–2022).

Early Life and Education

Michael Weatherly was born in New York. He grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut. His parents are Patricia and Michael Weatherly. Michael has Irish family roots.

He went to Fairfield Country Day School. Then he graduated from Brooks School in North Andover, Massachusetts. Michael also attended several colleges, including Boston University and American University. However, he left college early to start his acting career.

Michael Weatherly's Acting Career

Weatherly began acting with a small part on The Cosby Show. He played Theo Huxtable's roommate. From 1992 to 1996, he played Cooper Alden in the soap operas Loving and The City.

He moved to Los Angeles and quickly got a role in the FOX show Significant Others. He acted alongside Jennifer Garner in this series. Michael also appeared as a warlock in the first season of Charmed in 1998.

His movie roles include Meet Wally Sparks (1997) and Gun Shy (2000). He also starred in Cabin by the Lake (2000) and the independent film Trigger Happy.

Starring in Dark Angel

Weatherly starred in Dark Angel for two seasons. This role made him very popular. He received three award nominations for his work on the show. These included two Saturn Awards for best supporting actor. He also got a Teen Choice award nomination.

Becoming an NCIS Agent

In 2003, Michael Weatherly joined the CBS series JAG. He played NCIS Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo. He continued this role in the spin-off show NCIS. This became one of his most famous roles.

He also made guest appearances on NCIS: New Orleans (2014) and NCIS: Los Angeles (2015). He is one of only two actors to appear in all four shows: JAG, NCIS, NCIS: LA, and NCIS: NO. In 2004, he played Robert Wagner in the TV movie The Mystery of Natalie Wood. Later, Robert Wagner played his character's father on NCIS.

In 2016, CBS announced that Weatherly would leave NCIS after 13 seasons. Soon after, the network shared that he would star in a new show. This show was called Bull, which started in the fall of 2016. It was loosely based on the real-life work of Dr. Phil McGraw.

In 2024, Michael Weatherly returned to NCIS for a guest appearance. CBS then announced he would star in a new spin-off series. This show, called NCIS: Tony & Ziva, will be on Paramount+. He will act alongside Cote de Pablo, who plays Ziva David.

Michael Weatherly has also worked as a director. He directed two episodes of NCIS: "One Last Score" (2011) and "Seek" (2013). He also directed episodes of Bull.

In 2017, he directed a documentary called Jamaica Man. This film was about the life of Nigel Pemberton. Jamaica Man won "Best Documentary Portrait" at the 2017 Doc LA - Los Angeles Documentary Film Festival. It also won "Best Documentary" at the 2018 NYC Independent Film Festival.

Michael Weatherly's Music

Weatherly is also a musician. He sings and plays instruments like the piano and guitar. He has written several songs. Two of his songs, "Bitter and Blue" and "Under the Sun", are on the NCIS soundtracks. Early in his career, he played in a band and performed music in New York City.

Giving Back: Philanthropy

Michael Weatherly and his wife support several non-profit groups. They work with the Tryall Fund, which helps improve education and health in Hanover Parish, Jamaica. They also support the Environmental Working Group, which focuses on protecting the environment. Another group they help is Healthy Child Healthy World, which works on children's health.

Personal Life

Michael Weatherly married his Loving/The City co-star Amelia Heinle in 1995. They had a son in 1996. They divorced in 1997.

While filming Dark Angel, Weatherly started a relationship with his co-star Jessica Alba in 2000. They got engaged in 2001, but their relationship ended in 2003.

On September 30, 2009, Weatherly married Dr. Bojana Janković. She is a doctor from Serbia and Canada. The couple lives in Manhattan and has two children, a daughter and a son.

Michael Weatherly is the uncle of actress Alexandra Breckenridge.
