Michel'le's Music Journey
Michel'le grew up in California. She started her music career as a singer for the group World Class Wreckin' Cru. She sang on their 1987 song "Turn Off the Lights." Later, she signed with Eazy-E's Ruthless Records.
In 1989, Michel'le released her first album, which was named after herself. Her then-boyfriend, rapper Dr. Dre, produced the entire album. This album included her big hit "No More Lies," which became a top 10 song. Other popular R&B songs from the album were "Nicety" and "Something in My Heart." Her debut album, Michel'le, sold over 500,000 copies in the US and was certified Gold in 1990.
Michel'le also worked with a group called the West Coast All-Stars. They were nominated for a Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group Grammy Award. This was for their song "We're All in the Same Gang." The group included famous artists like MC Hammer, Ice-T, and members of N.W.A.
Later Albums and Collaborations
Nine years after her first album, Michel'le released her second album, Hung Jury, in 1998. This album was released on Death Row Records. It did not gain as much attention as her first album.
Michel'le also sang on songs by other artists. She provided vocals for 2Pac's song "Run tha Streets." She also sang on Tha Dogg Pound's song "Let's Play House." After Dr. Dre left Death Row Records, Michel'le and Dr. Dre went their separate ways.
In 2003, Michel'le contributed to the soundtrack for the movie Dysfunktional. She has also shared that she is working on new music. She released new songs like "Freedom to Love" in 2011 and "It Still Hurts" in 2014.
TV and Film Appearances
In 2013, Michel'le joined the cast of the TV show R&B Divas LA.
Her story was not fully told in the 2015 film Straight Outta Compton. This movie was about the group N.W.A. Because of this, Michel'le had the chance to share her own story. On October 15, 2016, Lifetime aired a movie about her life called Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel'le. Actress Rhyon Nicole Brown played Michel'le in the film. The movie shared her experiences and how she found herself. Michel'le hoped her movie would help and encourage others.
Michel'le also performed as herself in the stage play Love Jones: The Musical.
Michel'le's Family Life
Michel'le met Dr. Dre when she was 16 years old. They met while she was singing for World Class Wreckin' Cru. They later had a son named Marcel, who was born in February 1991.
