Michel Blanc (born 16 April 1952 – died 4 October 2024) was a famous French actor, writer, and director. He was well-known for playing characters who were often unlucky or worried a lot about their health.
Michel Blanc was a founding member of a famous comedy group called Le Splendid. He started it with friends like Thierry Lhermitte, Josiane Balasko, and Christian Clavier. This group created many popular plays and films.
Even though he was famous for comedy, Michel Blanc also showed his talent in serious roles. A great example is his main role in the film Monsieur Hire. He was one of the few people to win awards at the Cannes Film Festival for both acting and writing. He won the Best Actor award in 1986 and the Best Screenplay (writing) award in 1994.
Michel Blanc passed away on October 4, 2024, at the age of 72, after having a heart attack.

Michel Blanc started his career in theater. He performed in many plays, often with his friends from the Le Splendid group. Some of his early plays included Foot-ball and Je vais craquer in 1976. He also acted in Amour, coquillages et crustacés in 1978. Later, he appeared in the famous play 'Art' in 1992.
Directing on Stage
Besides acting, Michel Blanc also directed plays. In 1987, he directed L'Excès contraire. He also directed Je veux faire du cinéma in 1992, where he also acted.

Michel Blanc had a long and successful career in movies. He appeared in many films, often playing memorable characters.
His early film roles included small parts in movies like Let Joy Reign Supreme (1975) and The Tenant (1976). He became very popular for his role as Jean-Claude Dusse in the comedy film Les Bronzés (1978) and its sequel Les Bronzés font du ski (1979). These films were huge hits in France.
He continued to act in many comedies, but also took on more serious roles. For example, he played the main character in Monsieur Hire (1989), which earned him a nomination for a César Award (a top French film award). Michel Blanc also directed several films. His first film as a director was Marche à l'ombre in 1984, where he also acted and wrote the script.
In 1994, he directed Grosse Fatigue, a comedy where he played himself and another character. This film won him the Best Screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival. He also directed The Escort (1999) and Summer Things (2002). His last film as a director was Voyez comme on danse in 2018.
