Michelle Amos is an amazing electrical engineer who worked at NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center. She joined NASA in 1990, helping to design and build important electronic systems for space missions.

Michelle Amos's Education Journey

Michelle Amos worked hard in school to become an engineer. In 1989, she earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Science, in electrical engineering from Southern University and A&M College. Later, in 2005, she continued her studies and received a Master of Science degree in engineering management from the University of Central Florida.

Her Exciting Career at NASA

Michelle Amos had a very exciting career at NASA, working on many important projects. She designed electrical systems and control equipment at the Kennedy Space Center's Advanced Technology Development Center.

Working on the International Space Station

She was part of a team that supported the International Space Station (ISS). Her job was to help set up and keep track of all the electrical parts on the space station. Imagine making sure all the lights and computers work perfectly in space!

Helping with Space Shuttles

Michelle also led the team that managed the Space Shuttle program as it finished its missions and retired. This was a big job, making sure everything was handled safely and correctly.

Building the Mars Rover

One of her most exciting projects was working on the Perseverance rover, which landed on Mars in 2021. She was a system engineer for this incredible robot, helping to make sure it could explore the Red Planet. She worked on this at the JPL.

The Artemis Moon Mission

Before she retired in 2020, Michelle Amos also worked on the Artemis program. This program is designed to send astronauts back to the Moon. Her work helped prepare for future human space exploration.

Awards and Recognition

Michelle Amos received several awards for her excellent work. In 2002, she won an All Star Award at NASA's Women of Color Government and Defense Technology Awards Conference. The next year, in 2003, she was given the KSC Strategic Leadership Award for her leadership at the Kennedy Space Center.

Her Life Outside of Work

Michelle Amos was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was one of ten children in her family. She and her husband, John D. Amos, have three children. They live in Oviedo, Florida. After retiring from NASA in 2020, Michelle and her husband began a three-year term leading a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Louisiana.
