About Michelle Cartlidge
Michelle Cartlidge was born in Hampstead, a part of London, England. Her father was British, and her mother was a German Jewish refugee. Michelle also had a sister named Katrin Cartlidge, who was an actress and passed away in 2002.
Her Education and Artistic Journey
Michelle first studied ceramics at the Hornsey College of Art. Later, she continued her art training at the Royal College of Art. After finishing her studies, Michelle decided to focus on drawing. She began to develop ideas for children's books, which became her main passion.
Michelle's Career Highlights
Michelle Cartlidge won a special prize called the Mother Goose Award in 1979. This award celebrates exciting new artists in British children's books. She won it for her very first book, Pippin and Pod.
Published Books and TV Shows
Since then, Michelle has had over one hundred books published. These books are available all over the world in more than ten different languages. Her popular Teddy Trucks books were even turned into an animated cartoon series for Children's BBC!
Michelle's work is also featured on the Signed Stories website. This site helps children who are hearing-impaired by performing books in sign language. Some of her best-selling books include Mouse Ballet and The Cornish Cats Who Went To Sea.
Other Creative Projects
Besides writing and illustrating her own books, Michelle has also illustrated two collections of poems for young children. She worked on these with the poet Brian Patten. Michelle has also designed many other items. These include a twenty-nine-piece bone china gift range for Wedgwood, as well as greeting cards, tins, and wrapping paper.

Michelle Cartlidge lives in Cornwall, a beautiful county in England. She makes her home in a charming fishing village called Mousehole.
She is also a supporter of the Katrin Cartlidge Foundation. This foundation helps new artists and filmmakers.
