How Did Michigan Corners Get Its Name?
The name "Michigan Corners" comes from an old story or legend. Around the year 1825, a local man named Malcolm McLaughlin owed money and decided to leave town for a while. When he eventually came back, he told everyone that he had been to the state of Michigan.
Later, Malcolm McLaughlin opened a small inn or gathering place in this area. Because of his story, his neighbors started calling his business "Michigan." Over time, the name "Michigan" stuck to that part of the town, and that's how this small community became known as Michigan Corners.
