Michihisa Date (伊達 倫央, Date Michihisa, born 22 August 1966) is a former Japanese football player. He was a strong defender who played for two main clubs during his career. He is known for his time with Júbilo Iwata and Kashiwa Reysol.
Playing career
Michihisa Date was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on August 22, 1966. After finishing his studies at the University of Tsukuba, he joined a local football club. This club was called Yamaha Motors in 1989. Later, it became known as Júbilo Iwata.
From his very first season, Michihisa Date played many games. He was a key player in the centre-back position, which is a defensive role. The club played in the top Japanese league, the Japan Soccer League, until 1992.
In 1992, the Japan Soccer League changed. Yamaha Motors then joined the new Japan Football League. In that same year, his team won the league championship! The next year, in 1993, they finished in second place. This strong performance helped them get promoted to the top professional league, the J1 League, starting in 1994.
In 1995, Michihisa Date moved to a new club, Kashiwa Reysol. This team had also just been promoted to the J1 League. He continued to play as a defender for Kashiwa Reysol. Michihisa Date played professional football until the end of the 1997 season, when he retired from the sport.
