Midway is a small place in Wisconsin, United States. It's not a city or a village on its own, but an unincorporated community. This means it's part of a larger area called the town of Onalaska. Midway is located in La Crosse County.
The Story of Midway
Midway has an interesting past! It wasn't always called Midway.
How Midway Got Its Name
This community was first known as "Halfway Creek". It got this name from a nearby creek. Later, when a railroad depot (a train station) was built there, the name was changed. People started calling it "Midway". This new name likely came about because it was a stopping point "midway" along the train route.
Changes Over Time
Like many small communities, Midway has seen some changes. The post office in Midway closed down in 1934. This meant people living there had to go to a different town to send or receive mail.
Becoming a Village?
In June 2013, something big happened for Midway. The people living in the town of Onalaska, which includes Midway, voted. They decided to try and make their area an official village. They even chose a name for this new village: "Midway". The main building for the town of Onalaska, called the Onalaska Town Hall, is actually located right in the community of Midway.
