Mighty Canadian Minebuster at RCDB |
The Mighty Canadian Minebuster (often called Minebuster) is a fun wooden roller coaster. You can find it at Canada's Wonderland amusement park. This park is in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada.
History of the Minebuster
The Mighty Canadian Minebuster first opened on May 23, 1981. It was one of five roller coasters ready for the park's grand opening. Its design was inspired by an older roller coaster. That coaster was called Shooting Star. It used to be at Coney Island amusement park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Minebuster was meant to be the main attraction for a new area. This area was planned to be called Frontier Canada. However, the idea for this section was not built right away. The Frontier Canada section was finally added to the park in 2019.
The Minebuster is an out and back roller coaster. It was designed by Curtis D. Summers. The park itself built the coaster. Even though some reports say PTC built it, they actually stopped building coasters in 1979. But it's possible that the people who built Minebuster had worked on PTC coasters before. The two trains, which each hold 30 riders, were made by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters. Also, four water slides from Canada's Wonderland's water park, Splash Works, go right over the Minebuster's track!
How the Ride Works
The Minebuster is a special kind of wooden coaster. It's mostly an "out and back" style. This means it goes out from the station and then comes back. But it has a cool twist at the end. It adds an upward spiraling helix!
Here's what happens on the ride:
- First, the train leaves the station.
- It makes a quick U-turn to the left.
- Then, it goes up the tall chain lift hill.
- At the very top, there's a small drop.
- The train then turns right for the big first drop!
- After that, riders go over two hills that give a "negative-G" feeling. This means you feel a bit weightless!
- The train then passes under a waterslide.
- Next, it climbs a larger hill and turns right.
- It drops down again and speeds over three smaller hills.
- Then, it enters a banked turn to the left.
- For the grand finale, the train rushes through a helix inside a tunnel.
- Finally, it enters the brake run and stops.
