Miguel Ángel Falasca Fernández (born April 29, 1973 – died June 22, 2019) was a talented professional volleyball player and coach. He was born in Argentina but also had Spanish nationality. Miguel was a key player for the Spanish national team from 1993 to 2009. He even played in the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. In 2007, he became a European Champion with his team.

Miguel's Early Life and Family

Miguel Falasca was born in Mendoza, Argentina. His family had roots in Italy through his grandfather. His father, Juan Carlos, was also a retired volleyball player from Argentina. His mother was from Spain.

When Miguel was 16, his family moved to Spain because of economic challenges in Argentina. Miguel, his parents, his sister Mariel, and his younger brother Guillermo first went to Málaga. Later, they settled in the Canary Islands. Miguel was married to Esther Custodio. They had two children: a son named Daniel (born 2002) and a daughter named Sara (born 2004).

A Sad Farewell

On June 21, 2019, Miguel was at a friend's wedding in Italy. He started feeling unwell and went to his hotel room. The next day, he sadly passed away from a heart attack at the age of 46. This happened in Varese, Italy, where he was staying with his wife. People tried to help him, but it was too late.

Miguel's Coaching Career

Miguel Falasca started working as a head coach for the PGE Skra Bełchatów volleyball club in Poland in 2013. In his first season, his team won the Polish Championship for 2013/2014. This was the club's eighth time winning this title.

In July 2014, the club extended his contract until 2017. In February 2016, he also became the head coach for the Czech Republic men's national volleyball team. However, in March 2016, his club team, PGE Skra Bełchatów, lost a big match in the CEV Champions League. After this loss, the club decided to end his coaching role on March 28, 2016. In May 2016, he signed a new two-year contract with an Italian club called Gi Group Monza.
