Miguel Cano Pacheco was a talented Spanish artist. He lived a long time ago, during a period called the baroque era. He was an architect, which means he designed buildings, and a sculptor, meaning he created amazing statues.

Miguel was born in a town called Almodóvar del Campo. He was the father and first teacher of another famous artist, Alonso Cano. Miguel was especially good at making altarpieces, which are beautiful decorated screens found behind the altar in churches.

His work became very popular, and he received many orders for new projects. Because of all this work, he moved his whole family from La Mancha to Granada. This move happened just two months before his son Alonso was born.

Miguel Cano Pacheco worked on several important projects. His skills as a sculptor and architect were highly valued. Here are some of his notable works:

  • 1601: He created the altarpiece of San Ildefonso for a Parish church in Granada. An altarpiece is a large, often decorated, piece of art that stands behind the altar in a church.
  • 1628: He started the altarpiece of Nuestra Señora de la Oliva for a Parish church in Lebrija. His son, Alonso Cano, later finished this project.
