Miguel de Portilla y Esquivel (born 1660, died 1732) was a Spanish writer and a smart professor. He taught Greek at a university college in Alcalá de Henares. He was also an important church official there.

Miguel was born in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, in May 1660. His father, Baltasar de la Portilla Cierzo, was from Alcalá. He worked as an apothecary, which means he prepared and sold medicines. His father even became an inspector for pharmacies for the main church leader in Toledo.

Miguel's mother, María de Tendilla, was from Guadalajara. Miguel was her second child.

In 1679, Miguel started studying at the College of Saints Justa and Rufina in Alcalá. He earned a doctorate in theology, which is a very high degree in religious studies. After that, he became a professor of Greek at the University of Alcalá.

He also became a canon, which is a type of priest, at the Magistral of the Holy Children Justo and Pastor church. He helped the Archbishop of Toledo by examining church rules.

Miguel de Portilla y Esquivel passed away in Alcalá on January 21, 1732.
