Miguelita Creek facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Miguelita Creek is a small stream located in Santa Clara County, California. It starts in the hills of the East Foothills area, near San Jose. This creek is like a smaller helper stream, as it flows into Lower Silver Creek. Lower Silver Creek then joins a bigger river called Coyote Creek. So, Miguelita Creek is part of a larger water system.

Journey of Miguelita Creek

Miguelita Creek starts its journey high in the hills. These hills are located above the San Jose Country Club. The creek flows along the south side of Miguelita Road. It then travels through a canyon, passing under Alum Rock Road.

Through the Country Club

After the canyon, Miguelita Creek enters the San Jose Country Club. Here, you can see several small bridges. These bridges are built for golf carts to cross over the creek. The creek continues to flow between Holmes Drive and Fairway Drive.

Where the Creek Goes Underground

Near Fairway Drive and McKee Road, the creek seems to disappear! It goes into a special underground pipe called a culvert. This part of the creek flows hidden beneath the ground.

Rejoining Other Waters

The creek later comes back to the surface. It then merges with Lower Silver Creek near King Road and Schulte Drive. This combined water then flows into Coyote Creek. Coyote Creek is a much larger river in Santa Clara County.

A Look at Old Maps

Did you know that Miguelita Creek used to flow differently? According to old maps, the upper part of the creek once flowed north. It used to connect with another creek called Penitencia Creek. However, a new channel was built. This new channel changed the creek's path. It now flows directly towards Coyote Creek.
