Miguelitos are a super yummy type of puff pastry dessert. They are filled with a creamy custard and are a popular treat from La Roda, a town in Castilla–La Mancha, Spain.

These sweet pastries were created by Manuel Blanco, who was born in La Roda in 1925. After serving in the military, he moved to Pamplona in 1960. It was there that he created his special dessert.

Manuel named the pastry "Miguelito" after his friend Miguel. Miguel was the first person to taste this new creation, and the name stuck! Soon, La Roda became famous for its many talented pastry chefs, and Miguelitos became well-known across Spain.

What are Miguelitos?

Miguelitos are a simple, traditional cake. They are made from light and airy puff pastry. This pastry is a special kind of dough that puffs up when baked.

Inside, you'll find a smooth, creamy filling. This filling is like a custard, which is a sweet, thick cream. The outside of the pastry is often dusted with powdered sugar.

Different kinds of Miguelitos

While the original Miguelitos have a cream filling, you can also find them with other tasty fillings. Some popular choices include milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate.

You can enjoy Miguelitos either warm or cold. Their size can be different, depending on who makes them. In Castilla–La Mancha, people often eat Miguelitos with a warm cup of café con leche, which is coffee with milk. It's a perfect combination!
