Mika Kohonen (born May 10, 1977) is a famous Finnish floorball player who is now a coach. He is known as one of the best floorball players ever. He won the award for the best player in the world five times! After retiring as a player in 2021, he became the head coach for Storvreta IBK in Sweden.
Mika played for many teams in both Finland and Sweden during his career, which lasted from 1995 to 2021. He was also a very important player for the Finnish national team. Later, he even helped coach the national team.

Mika Kohonen's Club Career
Mika Kohonen started his professional floorball journey at just 18 years old. He played for his hometown team, Happee Jyväskylä, in Finland from 1995 to 2000.
Playing in Sweden
After five years in Finland, Mika moved to Sweden to play in their top league, the Swedish Super League. He joined Balrog IK in 2000. In his very first season, he set an amazing record by scoring 107 points! This record still stands today. He won his first league title with Balrog IK in the 2003–04 season.
Mika then returned to Finland for one season (2004–05) to complete his military service. He helped Happee win a silver medal in the Finnish league.
Storvreta IBK Success
After his military service, Mika went back to Sweden. He played for Storvreta IBK for ten seasons. This is where he won many big titles. Storvreta won their first-ever league championship in the 2009–10 season with Mika. They won two more titles in 2010–11 and 2011–12. He also helped Storvreta win the Champions Cup in 2010 and 2012.
Later Playing Years and Retirement
Mika played for SPV Seinäjoki in Finland during the 2015–16 season. Then, he spent two seasons with FC Helsingborg in Sweden. In 2018, he returned to Happee for a second time. Mika stopped playing in December 2019 because of an injury. He officially retired from playing floorball in January 2021.
Coaching Career and Family
After retiring as a player, Mika returned to Storvreta in 2020. He first worked as an assistant coach. Since 2022, he has been the head coach of the team. He even coaches his son, Gabriel, who is also a talented floorball player. As a coach, Mika has led Storvreta to win two more league titles in 2022–23 and 2023–24.
Mika also had his own line of floorball sticks. They were called MK29 and were made by the sports company Karhu.
Mika Kohonen's International Career
Mika Kohonen first played for the Finnish national team at the 1997 World Games. He played in a record 11 World Championships between 1998 and 2018. This is more than any other player!
World Championship Achievements
Mika won a medal at every single World Championship he played in. He earned four gold medals, five silver medals, and two bronze medals. He was also chosen for the All-Star Team five times, meaning he was one of the best players in the tournament. Mika holds the record for the most games played and the most points scored for the Finnish national team.
After his playing career, Mika continued to help the Finnish national team. He served as an assistant coach at the World Championships in 2020 and 2022.

Top Player Awards
He was named the best floorball player in the world a record five times by Innebandymagazinet. These awards were in 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. In 2021, Mika was honored by being added to the IFF Hall of Fame. This recognized his amazing career during the 2000s.
League Achievements
In the Swedish Super League, Mika was named Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in 2001–02. He was also the top point scorer and had the most assists in that season. He won the SSL championship three times as a player (2010, 2011, 2012). In the Finnish league, he had the most assists in the 2004–05 season.
Family Life
Mika Kohonen's son, Gabriel, was born in Sweden. He is also a floorball player and plays for the Swedish national team. Mika's brother, Mikko, also plays floorball.
