Playing Career Highlights
Starting as an Amateur
Mika Miyazato started playing golf at a young age. When she was just 14, she won the 2004 Japan Amateur Women's Championship. This made her the youngest player ever to win that event!
In 2006, Mika showed her talent at the 2006 Asian Games. She won two silver medals there. One was for the individual golf competition, and the other was for the women's team competition.
Becoming a Professional
Mika became a professional golfer in December 2008. She earned her spot on the LPGA Tour by doing well in a special qualifying tournament. This meant she could compete against the best golfers in the world.
In her first year as a professional in 2009, when she was 19, Mika finished fourth in two big tournaments: the LPGA Corning Classic and the Wegmans LPGA.
Her first professional win came in October 2010 at the Japan Women's Open Golf Championship. That same year, she had five top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour. This means she finished among the top 10 players in those tournaments. She earned over $600,000 that year!
Success on the LPGA Tour
In 2011, Mika led the 2011 U.S. Women's Open after two rounds and finished fifth overall. She also had three other top-10 finishes and earned almost $600,000.
The year 2012 was Mika's best season. Even though she had a slow start, she bounced back strongly. She tied for third at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. The very next week, she tied for second at the 2012 LPGA Championship. She was only two strokes behind the winner.
Soon after, Mika tied for second again at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. Then, in August, she won her first LPGA Tour event! This was at the Safeway Classic in Oregon. For the whole 2012 season, she earned over $1 million and had nine top-10 finishes. This was a fantastic year for her!
Later Career
In October 2013, Mika won her second Japan Women's Open title. She won by just one stroke after making a birdie (a great score) on the very last hole.
Her earnings on the LPGA Tour changed over the next few years. In 2015, she earned over $500,000, with a second-place finish at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. She continued to play in tournaments, but her earnings dropped in later years.
Mika Miyazato is not related to another famous LPGA Tour player, Ai Miyazato, even though they are both from Okinawa.
