Michael Anthony Farmer (born July 3, 1968) is a former professional baseball player. He was a left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Mike Farmer's Baseball Journey
Mike Farmer started his baseball career in a unique way. He first played college baseball at Jackson State University. Back then, he was an outfielder, not a pitcher.
From Outfielder to Pitcher
In 1989, the Philadelphia Phillies signed Farmer. He joined their minor league team. One day, during a game where his team was winning by a lot, Mike made a joke. He said he could pitch!
His coaches decided to let him try. To everyone's surprise, he pitched really well! Because of this, the Phillies kept giving him chances to pitch. By 1993, he became a full-time pitcher. This was a big change for his career.
Playing in Major League Baseball
Mike Farmer made it to the big leagues with the Colorado Rockies. His first game in Major League Baseball was on May 4, 1996. He played for a short time in MLB. His last game was on June 8, 1996.
After his time in MLB, Mike Farmer also played baseball in other countries. He played for the Doosan Bears in the KBO League (Korean Baseball Organization) from 2000 to 2001.
