Mike Nielsen's Musical Journey
Starting Young
Mike Nielsen was born in Sligo, Ireland. He started playing music at a very young age. When he was just four years old, he began playing the ukulele.
Learning Music
As he grew older, Mike studied music at several famous schools. He went to the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Dublin College of Music in Ireland. He also studied at the Berklee College in Boston, USA. These schools helped him become a skilled musician.
Playing with Famous Musicians
Mike Nielsen plays both acoustic and electric guitars. He has performed with many well-known musicians. Some of these include Kenny Wheeler, Larry Coryell, and Joe Lovano.
He toured Europe in 2001 with Dave Liebman. They also toured New Zealand and Australia in 2004. Mike and Dave have recorded two albums together. Mike has also played with the Crash Ensemble. He was a solo performer with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
Teaching Music
Besides performing, Mike Nielsen is also a dedicated teacher. He is the Director of Jazz Performance. This role is at the Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music and Drama. He helps train the next generation of jazz musicians.
