Mikel Leshoure, born on March 30, 1990, is a former American football player. He used to play as a running back in the National Football League (NFL). The Detroit Lions picked him in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. Before turning professional, he played college football for the Illinois Fighting Illini team.

Early Life and High School Football

Mikel Leshoure went to Centennial High School in Champaign, Illinois. He was a very strong player there. During his time in high school, he ran for an amazing 4,652 yards. He also scored 52 touchdowns by running the ball into the end zone.

College Career at Illinois

Freshman and Sophomore Years

As a freshman in 2008, Leshoure played a little bit. He gained 126 yards on 35 carries. In 2009, his sophomore year, he got more playing time. He played in 12 games and ran for 734 yards. This was a great achievement for him.

Junior Year Success

The 2010 season was Mikel Leshoure's best year in college. He ran for 1,697 yards, which was one of the best in the nation. He also scored 17 touchdowns. He played in all 13 games that season. He helped his team win the 2010 Texas Bowl against Baylor. In that game, he scored three touchdowns. Leshoure also holds the record for the most rushing yards in a single game for Illinois. He ran for 330 yards against Northwestern.

Professional Football Career

Mikel Leshoure moved on to play professional football after college.

Playing for the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions chose Mikel Leshoure in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He was the 57th player picked overall. Unfortunately, he got a serious injury to his Achilles tendon in August 2011. This injury made him miss his entire first season.

After missing his rookie year and being suspended for the first two games of 2012, Leshoure finally played his first NFL game. This was in Week 3 of the 2012 season against the Tennessee Titans. He had a great debut, running for 100 yards and scoring a touchdown. However, the Lions lost that game in overtime. On August 30, 2014, the Lions released Leshoure from their team.

Time with the BC Lions

On February 5, 2016, Mikel Leshoure signed with the BC Lions, a team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). However, he was released by the team a few months later, on May 5, 2016.
