Milecastle 75 (Easton) was one of many small forts, known as milecastles, that the Romans built along Hadrian's Wall in England. These milecastles were placed about one Roman mile (which is a bit less than a regular mile) apart.

What is Milecastle 75?

Milecastle 75 is a bit of a mystery! Experts believe it is located near the road that goes from Burgh by Sands to Drumburgh. However, this milecastle has never been found by archaeologists.

Where is Milecastle 75 Located?

Because Milecastle 75 has not been discovered, its exact spot is only an estimate. Scientists guess its location by looking at where other parts of Hadrian's Wall are. The area where it's thought to be, called Burgh Marsh, doesn't have any known signs of Hadrian's Wall left today.

Associated Turrets of Milecastle 75

Every milecastle along Hadrian's Wall had two smaller lookout posts, called turrets, connected to it. These turrets were usually placed about one-third and two-thirds of a Roman mile to the west of the milecastle. Soldiers from the milecastle would have likely guarded these turrets.

Turret 75A and Turret 75B

The two turrets linked to Milecastle 75 are known as Turret 75A and Turret 75B. Just like Milecastle 75 itself, the exact locations of these two turrets have not been found. Both of these sites are also thought to be in the Burgh Marsh area, where there are no visible remains of the Wall or its structures.
